It turns out that CompactGrid’s superior flow-through capabilities have been saving many food processors time and money!
A processor of value-added poultry products was experiencing surge problems with their chain edge conveyor belt that enters and exits its IQF line. After replacing their previous belt with CompactGrid, not only was the surge issue eliminated, they were able to maximize the nitrogen flow through to properly freeze the product. CompactGrid allowed the nitrogen gas to flow through the belt more freely, reducing the dwell time and lowering the freezer’s temperature from -180ºF to -140ºF. The switch to CompactGrid saved the company money by using less nitrogen gas and decreasing energy consumption needed to pull the belt through the freezer. The maintenance manager praised the belt saying “it’s compact, lightweight, easy to work with and easy to clean and sanitize!”
CompactGrid also solved a belt breakage issue for a processor of portion-controlled chicken products. The processor had been using a balanced weave belt on a batter application, where the product was secured between two belts and moved through the batter mixture. The balanced weave belt was continuously breaking to the point where they were changing wires on a daily basis. They estimated downtime related to the breakage was costing the company between $2,000 and $3,000 per minute! Once CompactGrid was installed on the circuit the processor reported immediate improvement on flow through and said “the belt is very reliable” and it was in use for a “month and a half before there was a single break.” The Manufacturing Engineer at the plant added that “it’s really easy to clean, so sanitation likes it. Production likes it because there are fewer product defects, and maintenance likes it because of its reliability.”
A baking company found CompactGrid as a solution to their reclaim issues on a small transfer conveyor. The conveyor has a small radius transfer and needed a belt that would allow spices to be passed through for reclaim ability. The Project Engineer was impressed that the “conveyor has been in almost continuous use for close to 10 months at an average of 10 hours a day, five days a week, and has been in operation just like it was put in yesterday.”
On a potato chip oil re-claimer, CompactGrid replaced a flat wire belt on a 30° incline. The potato chips exit a fryer and enter the inclined conveyor allowing the excess oil to drain off into a catch pan. CompactGrid significantly improved oil drainage, drying the product faster and minimizing waste.
CompactGrid is built to outlast other types of conveyor belt in the medium-duty performance category and continues to work for processors in a multitude of applications. So call us, to learn how it can help improve your plants efficiencies.
